I have been asked by the National Society to publicize the SAR's participation in this year's Kentucky Derby Parade. Below is the SAR-TALK email that was distributed 12 March. Please notify Joe Dooley and/or David Sympson before 1 April if you plan to participate.
Gentlemen,
Please forward this e-mail to your chapter, state and district Color Guard
Commander -- let's muster a large number of SAR Color Guardsmen!
The National Color Guard seeks Color Guardsmen from all over the country to
march in the Kentucky Derby Parade (the Pegasus Parade). Please note the
following details, and let me know if you will be able to participate:
Date: Thursday, April 30, 2009
Meet: At the SAR headquarters
Time: TBA, but probably late morning or early afternoon.
We will be bused from the SAR headquarters to the parade assembly area, near
Broadway and Barrett. After the Parade, the bus will also take us back to
the SAR headquarters.
The Parade steps off at 5:00 p.m., and depending on our position in the
Parade, we could be finished as early as 6:00 or as late as 7:30.
Please go to the SAR website (
http://www.sar.org/news/parade/parade.html)
for more details about lodging and other events.
Please note that the Parade organizers require a Release Indemnity and
Assumption Agreement, and the Medical Release Form, from each participant.
(Go to
http://www.sar.org/news/parade/parade.html for more details.)
David and Evelyn Sympson will graciously open their home for guests on the
afternoon of Wednesday, April 29. From the Sympsons' home SAR compatriots
and their guests may depart for the Louisville Boat Club to watch the great
Steamboat Race, and join the festivities at the Boat Club. Again, for more
details, please go to
http://www.sar.org/news/parade/parade.html .
If you intend to march, please fill out the Release Indemnity and Assumption
Agreement, and the Medical Release Form, available at
http://www.sar.org/news/parade/parade.html . Please note on the forms where
and by when these forms are to be filled out.
Just so we can keep a head-count, please e-mail all three of the following
that you intend to march:
