(Indianapolis – 31 May 2010) Accompanied Murat Highlander bagpipes and drums, the Indiana Society Color Guard signaled the beginning of the annual Memorial Day commemorations in Washington Park East Cemetery. This year’s special commemoration culminated with the unveiling of a unique and permanent public tribute to honor all Hoosiers who have died in service to the Country, since Vietnam. Pictured are Indiana National Guardsmen rendering honors to the individuals whos names are inscribed in the new memorial.
Keynote speakers included Major General R. Martin Umbarger, the Adjutant General of Indiana, and two officers recently returned from operations in Iraq. Reading the Pledge of Allegiance was the Honorable Gregory A. Ballard, Mayor of Indianapolis.
