(Muncie- 19 April 2008) Joseph S. Rumbaugh Orations contestants Carlee Green and Kian Hudson presented moving Revolutionary War speeches. A single point separated the two scores, with Mr. Hudson chosen to represent Indiana at the National SAR Congress, in Sacramento, CA. Pictured with Ms. Green and Mr. Hudson are compatriots Charles Peters, David Betzner (Orations Chairman) and Robert Howell. Jessica Johnson (not pictured) won the Knight Essay contest, with her writings about Revolutionary War heroine Nancy Morgan Hart. |

(Indianapolis - 1 May 2008) - Clarence A. Cook Chapter President, A. Stuart Hart, presented the Sons of the American Revolution JROTC Medal to Cadet Michael T. Lazorchak at North Central High School. Each year the Indiana Society recognizes 35-40 outstanding ROTC & JROTC students. Recipients are selected by their respective commanding officers, based upon a high degree of merit with respect to leadership qualities, military bearing and general excellence. |

(Indianapolis - 4 February 2008) As resolved by the Indiana Society House of Delegates at their January meeting, Society President Robert Howell led the INSSAR Color Guard, in presenting a George Rogers Clark Flag to the Indiana National Guard's 76th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. The flag was originally commissioned in November 1778 and carried by Indiana militiamen during the American Revolution. Major General Martin Umbarger gratefully accepted the First Indiana Militia Flag in behalf of the present Indiana "Militia" as they prepare for deployment to Iraq. |

(Indianapolis - 8 November 2007) The INSSAR Color Guard represented original citizen soldiers during the unveiling of the new Hoosier Patriot Memorial. A glass etching features a traditional minuteman and a bronze sculpture depicts the modern guardsman, clutching a child in his arms. Indiana National Guard Major General Martin Umbarger described the original minutemen "Hand on the plow…you let go of it and take up the musket in defense of freedom." A letter was read from President Bush, commending the Indiana National Guard for having this memorial - the first of its kind in the nation. |
